Good morning, whatever time it is, and wherever you are! May we present you our picks on things to read. We've had a packed week, with a couple of Mid-autumn festivities, plus preparation for some changes in our lives which we are excited to share soon! As we sat down and consumed everything the internet has to offer, we compile a list of things to keep you entertained without rolling out of bed (yet) on this glorious Sunday.
I grew up watching Yan Can Cook on telly, with my nan scoffing in the background ‘That’s not Chinese.’ Either way, I love it, I love that Chinese food is being represented. Apparently, there is another Chinese TV Chef long before him. It’s a she. She is Joyce Chen. There is no way I can hide how excited I am to find this out.
To listen to:
Stumbled across A Piece of Work this week and loved it. This podcast is a collaboration between WNYC and MoMa, with Abbi Jacobson sandwich in the middle. Yes, Abbi of Broad City talking contemporary art. Another podcast takeaway has to be Dear Sugars. The episode When Friendships End made me tear up, in a good a way. I can’t put into words how reassuring it is, you just have to give it a go.
I didn't ask for this: a lifetime of dick pics / Nick Kroll / Joyce Chen / A piece of work
This video featuring my favourite fat fem Asian + K-beauty guru is EVERYTHING. If you don't want to stay for the entire video, at least watch Kimchi scoop and slap on a chunk of cleansing balm, melting away makeup. Hands down the most satisfying thing ever. Also, another episode of Tinder Hijack with Nick Kroll, will get you kicking.
The Wild card :
One lady took all the unsolicited pics and messages she received and fill a gallery space to make a point. ‘The absurdity is almost comical.’ It’s time to stand up for ourselves and say enough is enough.
